Discover the Amazing Local Businesses Run by Mums in Harpenden

Let's Support Mum Run Businesses this International Women's Day...

...I don't think anything can prepare you for how you will feel once your baby arrives and you become a Mummy for the first time. Everything changes...the love you have for your tiny little human is so much more than you could have ever imagined. And for so many women having a baby makes them rethink and reevaluate their work/life balance. Some, like the 4 women I have met this International Women's Day have set up their own businesses since having their baby to enable them to spend more time with their own children but still continue to work.

Today we meet Amy from MamaBabyBliss Harpenden & St Albans, who through her Mum and Baby classes helps support other new mums at the very start of their Motherhood journeys from pregnancy through that amazing first year.

Welcome Amy from MamaBabyBliss Harpenden and St Albans

Can you tell us a little bit about your business?

I teach MamaBabyBliss classes in Harpenden; these include pregnancy yoga, baby massage and baby yoga. Becoming a mum can be a rollercoaster of emotions and I am dedicated to supporting mums on their journey to motherhood. The classes provide a safe and relaxing space for mums to bond with their baby and other mums/mums to be.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After having my daughter, I just knew I didn’t want to go back to my previous job working in London; I didn’t want to miss out on so many special moments with her, especially while she is so little and developing so much! When the opportunity came up to become a MamaBabyBliss teacher, I just knew it was the right step for me. I love being able to spend so much time with my daughter and help other mums in their motherhood journey, while also having a schedule that works for me.

What did you dream of doing when you were little?

I loved clothes and shopping so I always wanted to work in fashion. Prior to this job, I spent 8 years working for high street/online fashion companies.

What piece of advice do you want your daughter to have when thinking about her career?

Always do whatever makes you happy!

What advice would you give a new Mum wanting to start their own business?

Go for it ! It can be hard at the start getting yourself set up and established, and there were times when I felt overwhelmed. BUT it has been so worth it ! All the extra time I get to spend with my daughter is amazing! I get to work but make sure the schedule works for me and my family.
